Canticum Lucis (meaning “song of light” in Latin) was founded in the summer of 2013 as a musical outlet for choral musicians living in the Provo, UT area during the summer. Its aim is to provide its performers and audience members alike with the opportunity to share and experience light through impactful music. The choir’s repertoire draws upon a wide variety of time periods and styles throughout musical history — everything from the Renaissance through today, from great classical choral works to modern masterpieces. Over the years of its existence, the choir has grown in both size and the scope of the music it performs. Among the notable works the choir has performed are Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem” and Daniel Elder’s “Three Nocturnes”.

About the Director

Devan Weixler is the founder of Canticum Lucis and holds BA degrees in both music and German from Brigham Young University, where he found his passion for choral conducting under the tutelage of Dr. Ronald Staheli and Professor Rosalind Hall. Devan finds joy in sharing meaningful music as a conductor, composer, arranger, and performer. As both a tenor and countertenor, he has performed throughout the state and abroad with numerous professional choral ensembles, including the BYU Singers, the Lux Singers, Brevitas, the Consortium Men’s Ensemble, Cantorum Chamber Choir, the Deseret Chamber Singers, and the Salt Lake Vocal Artists. His belief that music is a divine, innate part of the human soul fuels his performances and rehearsals, asking singers and instrumentalists under his direction for the highest commitment to both well-founded technique and heartfelt artistry.
